Summer or Fall Orchestra for Beginners, 2017

You may start beginner lessons in the summer or the fall of 2017, though you must sign up for the lesson program this spring at one of the parent meetings in May.

Our school orchestra directors are presently meeting with all 3rd grade classes in the district, demonstrating the various orchestral string instruments. Beginning level string lessons on violin, viola, and cello will be offered starting on Tuesday, June 20, and will continue for a six-week period, concluding on July 25th. Lessons for beginners will be held three times per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for one hour per day at three sites – Lincoln Middle School, Bradford High School, and Tremper High School, with a final summer concert to be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 7:00 P.M., at Bradford High School. Classes will be offered at both Lincoln and Bradford schools during the day. We also have limited enrollment for evening classes at Bradford High School and Tremper High School.  You may view the full schedule here.

Families that prefer to start their students in the summer should attend one of the following meetings:

♦ Tuesday, May 23, at 7:00 P.M. in the Washington Middle School Auditorium, 811 Washington Rd.
♦ Thursday, May 25, at 7:00 P.M. in the Lance Middle School Auditorium, 4515-80th St.

Families that prefer to start their students in the fall should attend the following meeting:

♦ Wednesday, May 31, at 7:00 P.M. in Reuther High School Auditorium, 913 – 57th St

Attendance at one of these meetings is vital to enrolling in this program. Students will be accepted into the program in the order in which their registrations are received. Classes have filled up quickly in past years and class size maximums cannot be exceeded.

Parents unable to attend either of the meetings should know that late registrations can only be completed by contacting their child’s Orchestra Director (contact info listed below), beginning Tuesday, May 30. It is strongly recommended that parents enrolling students in this manner verify the availability of a seat in the program prior to making a commitment to the rental or purchase of an instrument. Late registration should be completed no later than Wednesday, June 7h .

Students will need to provide their own instrument. For those families wishing to rent an instrument, Kenosha Unified has made arrangements with a local music company to be present at the meetings. Parents are not obligated to utilize this District-endorsed vendor and are free to shop for other rental arrangements. If you have a string instrument in the family that you would like your child to use, please bring it along to the meeting so the school orchestra directors can evaluate its condition.

There are a limited number of District-owned “financial need-based” instruments that are available to interested students who qualify for free/reduced price lunch. If your child would be eligible for this program ask for an application during your child’s instrument fitting at the meeting.

We will need some information from you!  Please return the following information, as soon as possible, if you are interested in enrolling your child in the summer or fall beginning string instruction program.  You may fill in an online registration form here.

Or download and print this paper registration form, and then return it to the main office at your elementary school.
